Orbit Advanced PDF Export showing bed waveforms and object position graphs

We’re excited to introduce Advanced PDF Export - a powerful feature that lets you generate detailed visual reports from your ADM BWF files, perfect for documentation, client delivery, and quality control.

More Than Just Metadata

While our standard PDF export provides comprehensive technical information about your ADM files, the Advanced export takes it further by visualizing your spatial audio content over time.

Bed Channel Waveforms

The report begins with a complete breakdown of your bed channels. You’ll see individual waveforms for the 7.1.2 Bed for each speaker position - from Left and Right through to the height channels (Ltm, Rtm). Each waveform shows the audio activity across the entire duration of your file, making it easy to verify channel assignments and spot any unexpected content.

Object Timeline Visualization

Each object in your ADM file gets its own detailed card showing:

  • Audio Waveform - See exactly where and when each object has audio content
  • Position Graph - Track X (Left/Right), Y (Front/Back), and Z (Height) coordinates over time with color-coded lines
  • Width/Size Animation - For objects using width (Size) automation, a dedicated graph shows how the spatial width changes throughout the timeline
  • Metadata Summary - Importance, dialogue type, gain, and other key parameters at a glance

All graphs share aligned timecodes, so you can correlate audio activity with spatial movement at any point in the timeline.

QC and Troubleshooting

One of the most valuable uses for the Advanced PDF export is quality control. The visual timeline makes it easy to spot issues that might otherwise go unnoticed:

  • Empty Objects - Instantly identify objects with no audio content - flat waveforms stand out immediately against active ones
  • Silent Bed Channels - Verify all 10 channels of your 7.1.2 bed contain the expected content, and catch any accidentally muted or missing channels
  • Unexpected Automation - See at a glance if position or width automation is behaving as intended, or if there are unintended jumps or static values where movement was expected
  • Timing Issues - Correlate audio activity with spatial movement to ensure objects are positioned correctly when they’re actually playing
  • Missing Content - Quickly scan through all objects to verify nothing was accidentally omitted from the final render

For large projects with dozens of objects, scrolling through a visual report is far faster than auditioning each track individually. Issues that might take hours to find by ear can be spotted in seconds.

Professional Documentation

The Advanced PDF export is designed with professional workflows in mind:

  • Numbered Tracks - Objects are numbered sequentially after bed channels, matching the Dolby ADM spec
  • Clean Layout - Modern, Orbit-branded design with clear visual hierarchy
  • Time Markers - Automatic timecode intervals based on duration
  • Multi-page Support - Long projects automatically flow across pages with consistent formatting

How to Use It

  1. Open any ADM BWF file in Orbit
  2. Go to File > Export PDF > Advanced
  3. Choose your save location
  4. A progress indicator shows generation status as each object is processed

The resulting PDF is perfect for:

  • Client deliverables and approval documentation
  • Archive records of spatial mixes
  • QC verification before final delivery
  • Technical discussions with collaborators
